Newsletter February 11 - 15

I sent home another Valentine's Day list today.  We have a new student, Katrina Laub, and I added her to that list.  Thanks to those of you that have sent decorations to help with our Valentine's Day cans.  You can still send items to decorate the cans.  We will decorate them on Wednesday morning.  Our Valentine's Day party will be held on Thursday, at 1:00.  My students will hand out their Valentine cards at that time.  Please remember that if you choose to send Valentines with your child that they have one for EVERY student.

Next week, Thursday February 21,  we are going on a walking field trip to an orchestra concert featuring a Caribbean steel drum band.  We will leave for the Heritage center at 9:30 a.m. and be back before lunch.  Please make sure that you child is dressed for the weather. Look for a permission slip in your child's backpack this week.

Remember that Curriculum Night is next Thursday, February 21 at 6:00.  We will be performing our Water Cycle Reader's Theater that night at 6:00 in our classroom.  The school also has a multicultural night in conjunction with Curriculum night and you will be able to walk around and enjoy those displays after our performance.

Reese, Malachi, Alec, and Cason are all headed towards our classroom challenge of reading 100 books.  They have all read 10 books!  Remember that every 25  books each student reads they will receive a book to keep and a small treat.  Those that read 100 books will have their picture submitted to the newspaper in May.

The Scholastic book orders that I sent home last week are due this Friday, February 15.  This is a great way to get inexpensive books for the 100 book challenge :)

Congratulations to Emma and Dalton.  They will represent our class in the first grade spelling bee this Friday!

Happy Reading and Happy Valentine's Day!  I love my darling first graders! Remember that we have President's Day Holiday next Monday, February 18.
